This feature documentary aims to tell the story of Haider 44, who grew up being the son of an Iraqi diplomat, forced to flee from Iraq with his family at the age of 16 and then ended up in a city in northern Denmark where he shortly thereafter at the age of 19 years old took control of a local gang and ruled the streets of Ålborg for more than 13 years. We will follow and portrait his relevant and fascinating life story. Today, Haider is trying to leave the criminal life behind and be a role model for his 18 year old son, Ali, who is the only one of his five children who has followed in his footsteps and is currently serving time in prison for gang activities. Haiders personal story that will be told over time in multiple places and environments has the power to potentially leave an important footprint in the discourses that surround relevant subjects like criminality and migration but most importantly highlight the way circumstances that can not be foreseen dictate the lives we end up living. The documentary “The Prince” will offer an intimate, breathtaking and wide open window into the life of a gangster through our main characters’ stories, insights and hindsights. The story will be captured in moments of both poetry and candidness obtained through the director’s close and constantly growing relationship with his main character.
